When they unexpectedly stop by to leave their package, they seemingly also find their way inside for a visit. Simply offering them a coffee and a store bought cookie seems weak, so how about providing something more inventive, and impressive.

To do this, do a search for “last minute” appetisers and you will be greeted with numerous recipes that can be whipped up in under ten minutes. The fact that they involve so little effort, and time dedication makes me feel a bit cheeky even referring to them as recipes. Some of my standby items are dips with cut fresh vegetables. Honestly, that actually takes the same amount of time as making a cup of coffee, or tea. Not to mention it is probably one of the healthiest items they will be offered all season.

And if you hand over that emergency gift to them and them pop off to the kitchen you will gain a few extra moments to whip up your snack, and you avoid the response the individual makes to the present. Win, Win.

When you are selecting the furniture to be placed in the living room, dinning room and kitchen, and you plan to entertain regularly, keep a few things in mind. First, you will want the chairs to be comfortable as well as attractive. Do not opt for beauty over comfort, unless you want your guests to stay briefly. This means that you should pay attention not only to the construction of the chairs, but the upholstery too.

Second, confirm that the furniture you are interested in can be easily arranged to build convenient set ups. This means that the articles you choose can be placed with other items to establish an area that lends itself to socializing. The furniture layout that you design can make or break your entertaining prowess.

Our guest list will involve eight to ten people, and therefore we plan to serve three or four types of apps. They will come from the categories of meat or poultry, fish or seafood, and cheese, vegetables or fruit. As it is only scheduled to last a couple of hours, the apps will not be as hearty as they should be for a longer stint.

What we did not expect was to go on the hunt for a new house and to find that none could meet our lifestyle. You see we love to entertain, and have the perfect set up for it on any scale right now. So, for a bit we seemed to be stalled. But, once you have it in your head that you are ready to move, you find that you actually are ready.

Thus, we have had a change of tack in our journey, and are now looking at land for sale. The bottom line is we know what we want, and how we like things. Therefore, we have set our sights on building our next home. Which undoubtedly will keep us very busy, but not too busy to entertain.

For years my mother in law has turned into a miserable militaristic general of sorts for the whole week leading up to Christmas and Boxing Day. Each of those holidays she believes must be bigger than the last. What she has lost sight of is the way it makes those around her feel about the entire experience. So, while she meets new levels with four puddings instead of last year’s three, she also spends more time groaning about timing and stress.

So, when we entertain around the holidays we have vowed to keep things strictly undemanding, with emphasis on socializing and not silly unnecessary extravagant details. This year be brave and give it a go, bet you like it.

The main reason for getting a head start is that some of your tasks will require down time once they are set in motion. For example, if you are only going to host an outdoor wedding, then landscaping will be a priority. Or, there may be additional garden decorations, such as fountains and gazebos. Either way time is of the essence.

After the ceremony has come and gone, you should be left with at least a few smashing photographs of your home in tip top condition. If there is a professional photographer on hand, then you should request that he or she take at least a couple pictures of your house before and during the festivities. This is a wonderful gift that the couple getting married can give you in appreciation of your willingness to make your home available to them.
