Wall art can be complicated or it can be simple, it can be expensive, or it can be cheap and whimsical. For those not looking to invest in pieces painted by famous artists, but instead in search of perking up their walls with something to both fill space and reflect the style of the home there are wall stickers. You may also know these by the name of wall tattoos, which works well for the edgier forms, but not so much for the cutesy applications for baby rooms and such.

If you think that all of these stickers are a bit childlike, then you may be surprised with all of the subject matter that is covered. One wall art shop alone may offer inspirational words, floral patterns, music, animals, countries, tribal, clocks sports, and geometric shapes. Or you can always easily find simple repetitive ornamental pieces like fleur de lis, hearts, or shells.

Much like the craze in the 80’s of the wall border, these spruce up a vacant space in a jiffy. These actually seem easier than the borders of the past, as these you do not have to get exactly straight. Should you apply them a little catawampus, or tilted, it will probably just ad to the quirky appeal. The greatest thing with these is that there truly is something for everyone. If it a tattoo like image, an art deco façade, or just a retro pattern you can have it. Now there truly is no excuse for bare walls.

Some artists are able to keep a fine connection between the past and present. This is a case where a young couple has taken an old-fashioned form of printing (actual antique blocks) and built a business around them. They have combined their love of sports with their love for art and together created beautiful one of a kind prints centred around a team.

The prints are all handmade using those old blocks and the overall effect is one that is more than just eye catching. They have actually elevated sports memorabilia to an artistic form that could grace the walls of any home or office. The prints use catchy phrasing, and muted colours, but are outstanding in everyway. I for one surprised that I am such a fan, considering I have no interest in team sports whatsoever. But nonetheless, I am routing this lovely couple, and their home grown business on from the sideliners.

I cannot tell you how many times I have wrapped a gift and then realised I forgot to purchase a card to go along with it. Or, I have riffled through my extra supply of tags, or cards only to realise they are all holiday specific, and not appropriate for this item. Thus, I was really excited to come across this wonderful idea.

As long as you have blank note cards, letter paper or tags, an ink pad, some colourful pens and a cork you are all set. Just press the round bottom of a cork on to your ink pad and then on to your paper of choice and get creative. The markers can be used to put the details on the stamped circle from the cork. Quickly you can create a Christmas ornament, a smiley face, cherries, balloons and anything else you can turn a circle into.

Then you can expand on this idea and use the homemade stamp on jam jars, seed packets, fridge magnets, and stationary heading. Well, you get the idea. Once you get started you may never go back to store bought tags, or gift cards.

If you are looking for a memorable Valentine’s Gift, the kind that you get to enjoy all year long, then maybe heart art is for you. There are several artists who make wonderful prints of gorgeous hearts in numerous elaborately decorative pieces. One of my favourites is the work of an artist named Mindy Newman. Of all of her available pictures, the one that I intend to purchase for my honey bunch is named Heart 2 Heart. There are so many beautiful colours incorporated in this piece that is will fit in well in nearly all of the rooms in our house. Although, I am eager to bring in a new paint shade, so I might just select one directly from the palette she used. Her art is available in stretched canvas, framed prints, and plain prints. If you are running a tad behind schedule, you could opt to get the artist to overnight one of her greeting cards, which is an exact replica of the larger art and give that as a placeholder to your Valentine.

Although most flooring is not considered art, there are some exceptions. One of those is the metal coin floor, which is made up of a collection of monetary coins of your choice. You can select all the same, such as the copper penny, or a variety of coins from a wide variety of countries across the world. Either way, you end up with one very original floor.

To make the floor even more interesting, patterns which can be created with the coins are nearly limitless. No matter what you choose, you can rest assured that you will be the only one around with such an authentic piece of art. It just happens to be under foot, instead of hanging from a wall or ceiling, or resting on a podium. These are the things that make a home one of a kind, and more than just a place to rest your weary head after a long day.

Silhouette artwork is back in vogue again, and we think this is delightful. Early on the portraits served as a way to hold fast to the likeness of loved ones. For centuries now this art form has been enjoyed, and it is nice to see that it has found a new fan base.

Recently, it has been seen gracing the pages of numerous magazines, along with party and wedding invitations. In fact, recently Jennifer Lopez celebrated her birthday by throwing a party where a silhouette artist did impromptu works of the guests to take away with them as gifts. In addition, one of the gifts that Jennifer herself got was her own silhouette.

We love the idea of it as the decoration in a baby room. It has such a sweet and wholesome childlike appeal that it seems perfectly suited for that environment. Bet this is the biggest trend in baby room decorations next year, just wait and see.

The more art I see for sale on the High Street the more I expect to continue to stare at blank walls in my home. Totally uninspired is the phrase I think of when I see what is readily available. Thus, my quest to make my own wall art has begun.

I have set my sights on framing large swatches of beautiful fabrics with large patterns. This will be much simpler than stretching large pieces of fabric over pre-stretched canvas, or bare stretcher bars. In fact it will be as simple as inserting a regular photo into a frame would be.

To do this project, I have purchased 6 brushed silver modern style frames with white mats inserted. The fabric I have cut into 6 large swatches is a very large toile print. And it will take all of 30 minutes tops to complete this artwork, and have it hanging.

One area of art that is often overlooked is the beautiful world of stamps. With so many countrys producing stamps, and the numerous genres applied the options are endless. The artwork which is placed on the stamp design can be made into wall art in a couple of different ways.

You can buy a sheet of stamps which covers a particular theme and then have that matted and framed. Poof, you have a wonderful picture and a piece of a countries history all in one. Or, if you are interested in creating larger pieces, you can take the stamps art and have it enlarged to your specifications. Do this with a few different styles and you have a well defined, and cohesive theme formally established.

I did this project with a collection of Broadway musical stamps several years back. I constantly receive compliments on it, and it adds a great deal to the musical posters that are hung nearby. This is also a fabulous way to get children interested in collecting stamps.

It is well known that several of the best actors and musicians have rallied together to bring in relief funds for Haiti. However there are also numerous artists who have given of themselves, but have not received as much acclaim. One of these is the artist and animator Theodore Ushev has called upon his talents to create a high impact poster to aid in disseminating the news of Haitian earthquake victims. The poster depicts a young child with downcast eyes alone. Underneath the picture are the words Help Haitis Children Now. Mr. Ushev felt compelled to make the piece with the intent for it to be used freely to promote the collection of donations.

This is yet one more instance of an artist using a personal gift for the benefit of Haitians struggling in the aftermath of a major catastrophe. His message is clear and his act pure. He has created good art, for good reason. In everyday life this tends to be a rare observation, but in times like these we are reminded of the genuine good that can be expressed by mankind. As such, it is truly inspirational and we applaud him and the others who have contributed.

For a homeowner looking for a way to incorporate artwork into their design, contemporary art allows optimum versatility. Whether the individual is looking for robust colour, or basic black and white, it is all there for the picking. The sinewy lines of a drawing, or the dramatic splash of paint make the possible fusion of many different styles possible.

Art should be as much about bejewelling your space as it is what appeals to you. With such a varied range of works falling under the title of contemporary art, you will be able to blend earlier pieces you acquired with later ones seamlessly as your taste evolves. Thus, there are many different levels to the meaning of the statement the beauty of art. In sum, if you begin to collect one form of contemporary art while living in one house, and transition to another later on, you will not feel any pressure that the pieces cannot co-exist.

Your art collection will grow, expand, and possibly diverge at different points, but there is a safety net in sticking with the contemporary style as a whole. In the end, you will find that your home décor will reflect the present, past and probably even future you in one way or another. And surely what we are all striving for is to have a space that reflects the true self.
